We are a community. Sometimes someone can't behave for the good of a community. I for one, am tired of seeing people I care about be hurt.

This issue was posted to break that cycle. I support the posting of what happened and the subsequent banning.

Life isn't safe, the internet isn't safe, but we have to protect our own. Actions have consequences and while Eris put in her personal history as a disclosure, I believe she acted for the good of the board.

None of this is easy.

I don't know what Dano did or didn't deserve. He took himself out of my concern 2 years ago.

However.

I have ALWAYS maintained that I am moderator because you guys want me to be moderator. So, if I make a decision, it's up to you guys to tell me what you think of it. I'm not some tin god, ordictator, I'm not anything really, except what you guys choose to make me. So, I may take an action, that, after full consideration, I believe to be the only way.

That doesn't mean it is the only way.

And if that action is to be criticized, I want it to be right up front. I don't ever want you guys to think you can't call me on a decision.

That doesn't mean I'm going to change my mind. It doesn't mean I'll LIKE being called on.

And yes, I'm including kelvin in the collective "you guys". He was here before me, and he left, but he's still part of "us".

i'm not denying your right, as moderator, to ban a person from the board. but then, your methods are distasteful
i can't see the need to stand up and denounce dano so publicly and righteously

Kevlin, I have spent the last two years keeping a secret.

And then I made a mistake. I told Dano I would let him back on the board, before really talking to him.

The problem here is that Dano has operated in the past by manipulating and violating people's trust. I felt that the best way to neutralize that weapon was to make him unable to use it here again.

And I understand that there are consquences to me, and to Dano for what I have done.

But, having allowed Dano to return, I was then in the position, after having reevaluated my assement of his change, of having to act NOW, or to wait until someone else got hurt.

There have been enough people here hurt. I am sorry that in order to protect people I had to hurt Dano. However, there are consequences.

Kelvin, you say that eris was grandstanding denouncing dano publicly but would you have rather seen just a message stating dano is banned without an explanation? then this thread would be about a couple of hundred posts long demanding to know what happened & wanting all the details. she wasn't denouncing publicly so much as putting the case forward at the beginning. I don't think there is anyone that posts on this board routinely that doesn't think she at least went about it the best way, even those of us that might disagree with the decision. Launching what appears to be a personal attack on her does none of us any good.

And I now consider this baby put to bed. Eris, you are our moderator, you see to our day to day needs. Me? I'm just the fly-by-night, "Moderator Emmeritus" type...the Prince charcater in Romeo and Juliet if you will...and I believe in this Board...but I'm also stubborn and I'm also open-minded (what a combo). I believe eris has done a correct thing. I believe she did so in the open and in a fair minded manner. All other discussion, commentary and such, can be directed to PM and me if you feel it is needed. Otherwise, this thread is closed. There is no further need for debate.
